10 Ways NXT Is Making WWE Look Bad

9. More Simplistic Storylines

WWE.comWWE.comWWE has a tendency to over-complicate stories in an attempt to keep with the episodic television element of its shows. As a result, they occasionally descend into nonsense or overstay their welcome. Case in point: the John Cena-Bray Wyatt story. It started hot, featured some revolutionary promo work from Wyatt and had the fans invested. Then it became played out and by the time the blowoff match occurred at Payback, it was clear that WWE Creative had run out of ideas. That is not a problem in NXT. The angles are more simplistic and basic. They are the product of watching years of pro wrestling and replicating angles that worked in the territories. Triple H, a lifelong wrestling fan and one of the smartest men in the sport, understands how to get over and elicit a response. Rather than incorporating Hollywood elements or scripting promos for the wrestlers, he books basic and entertaining angles while allowing the wrestlers to express themselves a bit more freely on the microphone. It makes for a much better, organic product that fans can appreciate more than the highly scripted show they see on Monday nights.
