10 Ways WWE Can Fix Survivor Series In 2021
1. End The Brand Warfare Concept
The stranglehold this gimmick puts on WWE creative is simply too much. For Survivor Series 2021, the best thing that WWE can do for the event's health is put an end to this exhausted angle.
Beyond the creative suffocation it presents, it's hard to think of any wrestling fan in 2020 buying into brand vs. brand matches. Since WWE began exhibiting these inter-brand battles, the idea never became a household part of the calendar as much as they would have liked it to. The matches themselves can be a lot of fun, but the buy-in from the WWE Universe just isn't there.
The inter-promotional matches that used to feature at WrestleMania were much better in execution. WrestleMania XX immediately comes to mind, where we saw a returning 'Deadman' take on his brother Kane, and the ill-fated first matchup between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg take place. Why were these matches better? Because they were rooted in story and not thrown together on a whim.
I don't know how likely it is that WWE would change their game plan before the 2021 Survivor Series event, but I can only hope that they will heed the advice of the many fans out there who want to see something fresh.
A look back over their own history, match types, and success with inter-brand gimmicks should be informative enough for them to encourage breaking the monotonous cycle.
