10 Ways WWE Has Failed Seth Rollins As WWE Champion
8. Softening Of Heel Status
One of the major concerns that many people had when Rollins first turned on his friends in the Shield was that his moveset marked him out as a natural babyface. Rollins' athleticism and size meant that he was well-suited to high-flying action and agile moves that popped the crowd. When he turned heel, it was impressive how much Rollins did to minimise that side of his arsenal in order to work more like a villain between the ropes. In recent months, much of Rollins' work has been undone by some truly bizarre booking that seems determined to cast the champion as a babyface rather than a ruthless villain. The Authority have repeatedly booked their supposed chosen one into tight spots, stacking the odds against the champion who they should be giving an easy ride out of favouritism. This came to a head at Night of Champions, when Rollins was booked to defend the United States Championship and WWE Championship in successive matches against John Cena and Sting. That level of forced endurance is not the preserve of a heel. Things became even weirder a few weeks later. After being verbally run down by Shawn Michaels, Rollins was goaded into teaming with his old Shield comrades in a six-man tag team match against the Wyatt Family. This earned Rollins a babyface pop as a result of the popular reunion, which was out of place for his heel character. If WWE wishes to turn Rollins into a fan favourite, there's plenty of scope for it to happen, but they should commit to him as a heel if that is the immediate plan.
