Vince McMahon assumes that you will watch whatever he offers you, even if you've seen it before. Many times before. In the course of one summer, we got five Sheamus vs. Randy Orton singles matches. That is just from June to the end of August, as of course, we have seen them battle it out many other times before that. During that time frame, they also fought in seven tag matches. Twelve times they went at it in the span of three months. Did the announcers mention this? Did they talk about either one being ahead in the series? Was either wrestler interviewed a single time about what any of these wins would mean to them? The answer to all of this is: No! So basically, none of it mattered. Elsewhere over the summer, Mark Henry fought Rusev three weeks in a row on Raw. It was never mentioned they were re-matches, so instead of it being a storyline, such as Henry trying to avenge a loss or stand up for his country, it felt like management booked it multiple times hoping we wouldnt notice, or simply not caring if we did. For further redundancy, look at Roman Reigns and Big Show. In 2015 we got six televised singles matches between them and 10 tag matches, Seth Rollins and Ryback have had five singles matches on TV this year, R-Truth and Wade Barrett have been in eight, and The New Day and the Prime Time Players have fought in some form 18 times in televised matches since March 31st! That is not new, and is not worthy of primetime! But you dont notice right? Did every match feel like a first time event? Or, like the ratings suggest, are you sick of seeing the same people fight the same people over and over again?
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
