10 WCW Cruiserweight Matches You Should Watch
5. Chris Jericho V. Ultimo Dragon - Bash At The Beach 1997
This match stands out because of how great these two were at putting on a wrestling match that didn’t need an overdose of high-flying. While Jericho tended to work a decent pace, he took a backseat to Dragon in that respect and used his size, and slowed down every chance he could, while Dragon was able to pick that pace up whenever he could and tried to keep Jericho off his game.
The reversals and even field of this match definitely made the resolution seem unclear. Jericho would counter a move and take control, Dragon would do the same a few minutes later. Each man hit some aerial offense as well as some signature moves, including Dragon hitting a beautiful Asai Moonsault, a move that Mike Tenay would remind you that Dragon invented.
Jericho was definitely booked to go toe-to-toe and move for move with Dragon and build him as a strong champion, even countering out of a Dragon Sleeper. Jericho got the win after a series of reversals and a final roll-up was the finish, followed by a handshake between the two afterwards.
