10 WCW Moments That Still Haunt Wrestling Fans

5. The nWo Mocks Arn Anderson

On a recent edition of his podcast, 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair assessed that this particular segment was in very poor taste. According to Flair, Arn Anderson was badly hurt by the impersonation Kevin Nash did of him live on Nitro. Flair's guest, Eric Bischoff, takes a portion of the blame for the skit, because he say he had the power to turn it down. Instead, it went ahead. In September, 1997, Arn Anderson had retired from pro wrestling. The previous week on Nitro, Arn had cut an impassioned speech about his career. Just 7 days later, the nWo poked fun at it, and annoyed a lot of people backstage in the process. In particular, Nash's impression of Anderson had a lot of people uncomfortable. Sean Waltman portrayed Ric Flair during the segment, crying his eyes out over what 'Arn Anderson' was saying. As the promo rolled on, Nash brought up sensitive issues, such as Arn's alcoholism and real-life neck injury. The Four Horsemen were not permitted a rebuttal on the show, which only made things more confusing. It's likely that if Flair and Anderson had stormed in and cleaned house, this segment wouldn't be as negatively remembered.
