10 WCW PPV Concepts WWE Should Revive
8. Battlebowl
Having fallen way behind the WWF by 1991, WCW frequently went out of their way to create new and unusual concepts as a means of differentiating themselves from the competition.
One such idea was the Battlebowl; a misfit tag tournament whereby names were drawn at random in what was dubbed the “Lethal Lottery”. Those mismatched teams of superstars would square off with other newly formed teams, with the winning teams going on to fight in the Battlebowl itself later that night.
Despite qualifying in teams, the Battlebowl match was an over-the-top-rope battle royal with every man for himself rules. The “strange bedfellows” formula of pairing up random partners made for interesting viewing throughout the event, as many teams also comprised of heated rivals forced to team up; e.g. Vader/Cactus Jack and Ricky Steamboat/Steven Regal.
With mismatch tag teams a recurring trend of the last two decades in WWE - e.g. Eddie Guerrero/Tajiri, MVP/Matt Hardy, Heath Slater/Rhyno, etc. - a Battlebowl special would be an interesting addition to the WWE TV as a standalone event or as part of an existing PPV.
