10 WCW PPV Concepts WWE Should Revive
6. Bunkhouse Stampede
In the Crockett days of NWA, Dusty Rhodes and co. frequently played up to the southern roots of the organisation and the match types would often reflect just that. One such innovation during this time that exemplified this fact was the Bunkhouse Stampede.
The original Bunkhouse Stampede concept was a hardcore battle royal whereby the participants would eliminate each other by throwing them over the top rope. Decked out in typical, pro wrestling “street fight” attire - often jeans, t-shirts, cowboy boots, etc - weapons were legal and the matches would habitually see blood amongst the carnage.
A popular match amongst the fans, the bout became a standalone PPV event in 1988, headlined by a unique version of the traditional Bunkhouse Stampede, this time contested within a steel cage. Opponents were eliminated by being thrown out the door or over the top of the cage to the floor below.
A throwback to the old school, a Bunkhouse Stampede match, PPV or even a Network special could be a unique draw for the WWE today, especially as the last Bunkhouse Stampede event was held almost 30 years ago. A 30th anniversary event to commemorate the last Stampede would be a great way to reintroduce the bout while offering fans something different to their everyday WWE programming.
