Make no mistake about it, Rey Mysterio's run in World Championship Wrestling was truly revolutionary. It wasn't the first time North American audiences got to see him, but WCW Monday Nitro gave him and his fellow luchadors a way bigger number of viewers, and for a long time the cruiserweight division was far and away the highlight of Monday night wrestling.

Rey wrestled on Monday Nitro 113 times, and his battles with Dean Malenko, Eddy Guerrero, Juventud Guerrera and Ultimo Dragon more than stand the test of time. Mysterio arrived in WCW in the summer of 1996, with his first match being a loss against Malenko the night after the infamous Great American Bash. I highly recommend searching that match out sooner rather than later.

Rey actually wrestled twice on the last episode of Monday Nitro, both times as part of a tandem with Billy Kidman. The first match saw them win a sprint against Kaz Hayashi & Yun Yang and Evan Karagias & Shannon Moore. This set them up for a Cruiserwight Tag Championship match later in the show against Elix Skipper & Kid Romeo, which they would win to become the final holders of those forgotten belts.
