Yes, believe it or not, 'The Heartbreak Kid' Shawn Michaels and 'Smackdown's Numbah One Announcah' Funaki are apparently buddies behind the scenes. When Funaki was fired in April 2010 after twelve years with the company, most assumed it was because his friend/protector Michaels was no longer around to save him (Michaels retired earlier that month). Apparently Funaki was a huge Shawn Michaels fan and, when he came to the WWF, made no secret of his admiration for HBK. Funaki recently tweeted that he was instructing Hideo Itami to watch Michaels matches while down in NXT. Funaki is also a Christian, like Michaels, and the two no doubt bonded over their faith. Funaki relocated to Texas so he could live close to his friend/idol.
