10 Weirdest Ways Wrestlers Got Injured
3. Sami Zayn Tears His Rotator Cuff Doing His Entrance
A vivid childhood memory of mine is breaking my arm at a friend's birthday party. I'd already been warned by my parents that I was getting "giddy" and was going to hurt myself, but failed to heed their advice. Instead I got completely caught up in the moment, dove off the trampoline, and ended up with my arm in a cast for weeks.
Something similar happened to Sami Zayn back in May 2015, although the circumstances make his actions rather more understandable. It's not every day that Bret Hart introduces you on Monday Night Raw as the contender for John Cena's US Title open challenge, in Montreal no less.
Zayn made his typically enthusiastic entrance, limbs everywhere, but in doing so managed to tear his rotator cuff through sheer over-exuberance. Credit to 'The Underdog from the Underground': he still managed to work a great match with John Cena, but you didn't need to be a doctor to see he was struggling with an injury.
Sami subsequently fought Kevin Owens at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable to a no contest after Owens pop-up powerbombed him on the ring apron, missed nearly seven months of action due to his self-inflicted suffering, and presumably vowed to tone down his excitement going forward.
