10 Wildest WCW Moments

2. The nWo Formation

In 1996, WCW needed a proverbial boot up the backside. The company had come to rely on the star power of Hulk Hogan, but his magic as a main event babyface was fading. Boos could be heard ringing out during Hulk's appearance on TV, which prompted management to suggest a change. The timing was perfect, due to the aura surrounding 2 incoming stars. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall entered WCW in the early Summer months. Collectively known as 'The Outsiders', the hint was that Nash and Hall had come from the WWF to destroy its competition. The angle played out brilliantly, even more so when they told of a mystery third man who was already with them in WCW. That's where Hulk Hogan reentered the equation. At the Bash At The Beach Pay-Per-View in July, '96, Hogan unthinkably turned heel and joined forces with Nash and Hall. Forming the New World Order, Hulk cut a fantastic, visceral promo on why he had made the decision. There was a chaotic feel to the event's closure, as fans pelted the ring with rubbish and couldn't believe they had been duped.
