10 Wildly Controversial Wrestling Statements

8. CM Punk Calls Pro Wrestling 'Phony World'

During his time in the industry, Phil 'CM Punk' Brooks always maintained that he loved the professional wrestling business dearly. In fact, a large part of his renegade character from 2011 onwards was that he didn't feel WWE accurately represented what wrestling was all about. Looking to change that mentality was a huge part of the character's motivation. For a variety of reasons, Punk decided to leave the company in early-2014. Since then, the man has been training for a career with UFC in the Mixed Martial Arts profession. Outright stating that he will never wrestle for WWE again, the guy also made some interesting comments during an interview with Sports Illustrated earlier this year. The fact that pro wrestling is predetermined shouldn't shock anybody in 2015. Even so, Punk lashed out at the industry, calling it a "phony world". Elaborating, the man questioned, "what does it mean to be a good fake wrestler?". Clearly, there were fans who were less than pleased, pointing out exactly what this "phony world" had done for the man's lifestyle.
