7. Vince Russo Says Foreigners Don't Draw In The USA
Vince Russo's time in charge of World Championship Wrestling has went down in history as one of the most chaotic reigns in history. Losing money left, right and centre, the Atlanta-based promotion were badly running out of ideas. Russo's writing style wasn't cutting it, and most fans generally agree that he helped destroy WCW. People started to abandon the company in droves by mid-2000. When he came into WCW, Russo was heralded as the man who could help turn the ship around. The feeling was that Russo had worked wonders in the WWF, which was true. The writer had been responsible for some tremendous television during the 'Attitude' Era. Nonetheless, his WCW run was a complete disaster. Some of the comments the man made during interviews didn't help endear him to anyone. Saying during one media appearance that he didn't think non-American wrestlers could draw a dime in North America, Russo said that he didn't care for watching any performers not from the United States. This obviously irritated many of the foreign wrestlers under contract, and was a woefully ill-advised statement.
