10 Words That Only Exist Because Of Wrestling

6. Smark

IWC Smark is an interesting case as the majority of wrestling fans would assume it doesn't even exist outside the world of wrestling. This isn't true. Several dictionaries including Merriam-Webster list the word smark as an abbreviation of the term "smart aleck", which as we all know, means a patronising know-it-all who frequently shoves his or her knowledge in people's faces, even when wrong. Smarks indeed. In wrestling, a portmanteau of smart and it's ancestor 'mark', a large debate in the IWC exists as to whether professional wrestling smarks even exist. It tends to come down to semantics more often than not and whether you fall on the yay or nay side of that particular line, you can take comfort in knowing the term 'smark' does indeed exist whether in wrestling context or indeed not.
