10 Worst AEW Booking Decisions
2. American Top Team
Throughout the latter part of 2021 American Top Team became a prolific part of AEW's television, which was ultimately a poor decision given the faction's overall impact on the show. Dan Lambert was the catalyst for both the good and bad of the group, as his incendiary promos were at first exciting but quickly descended into quite a problematic thing.
The association with the Men of the Year could have worked on paper but the MMA influence from ATT made the tandem seem less important, as fighters such as Junior dos Santos, Andrei Arlovski, and Jorge Masvidal were profiled as bigger stars in the group. The Inner Circle feud could have legitimised the faction but it was overshadowed by Lambert and Chris Jericho exchanging quite disgusting promos based on cheap heat.
Of course, fans' mileage will vary on accepting what type of content is okay but the toxic nature of Lambert's words was rightly criticised as being too close to the bone. This only got worse when he exchanged promos with Brandi Rhodes and later Sammy Guevera and Tay Conti, where he was blatantly misogynistic to the women involved.
Wrestling is of course not meant to reflect the real-life performers playing the fictional characters, but using such negative verbiage will not always be received well and will directly affect much of the audience watching.
