"What was the point in that?!"

That was the reaction held by many a WWE viewer when Drew McIntyre avenged his Hell in a Cell loss to Randy Orton on RAW, ending the Legend Killer's title run a mere three weeks after it started. Not exactly a reign of terror, more like a drizzle of piss from WWE's ever-flaccid booking committee.

We love Drew McIntyre, and his match with Roman Reigns at Survivor Series was an absolute belter, but Randy Orton deserved better than a three-week fling with the title. He was the best heel in the company during the summer, outshining even the great work done by Sasha and Bayley as his revived "Legend Killer" gimmick visibly re-energised and re-motivated the Viper into putting on his best performances in years.

WWE should have capitalised on Randy's momentum by giving him the belt at SummerSlam and then booked Drew to go over him at Hell in a Cell. Switching the title on RAW smacked of WWE realising they had booked themselves into a corner over the Reigns/McIntyre match at Survivor Series, and the end result was Randy getting his legs cut off during one of his best-ever years.

It's not often we feel sorry for Randy Orton, but such is the state of WWE Creative these days - even the golden geese are getting their wings plucked.
