10 Worst Champions Of The Best Titles In Wrestling

3. Shane Douglas/NWA Heavyweight Championship

Making his second appearance on this list, Shane Douglas was also once, briefly, the bearer of the legendary NWA Heavyweight title. The NWA Heavyweight Championship is the oldest surviving wrestling title in the world. It dates back to catch wrestler George Hackenschmidt in 1905. The list of NWA champions is a veritable who's who of classic professional wrestling: Lou Thesz, Buddy Rogers, Killer Kowalski, Dory and Terry Funk, Harley Race, Ric Flair, Sting, etc... In 1994, Douglas defeated 2 Cold Scorpio in an NWA World Title tournament. Immediately after winning the coveted strap, Douglas threw the title on the mat and claimed he had no interest in being NWA champion and that the NWA Eastern Championship, which Douglas already held, was the true title. Eastern Championship Wrestling then withdrew from the NWA and became Extreme Championship Wrestling. Douglas went on to hold the ECW Heavyweight title longer than anyone else. He was undoubtedly a pioneer for the organization and a face for the new school of wrestling. As an NWA Champion though? It's hard to be any worse than this.
