Lawrence Taylor's performance in the main event of WrestleMania XI is still one of the best of any celebrity to ever lace a pair of boots. He worked extensively with Pat Patterson to ensure he would be able to deliver a quality performance against Bam Bam Bigelow, and the effort he put in was evident throughout the contest.

Still, one of the best celebrity performances in WWE history does not a great WrestleMania main event make.

Taylor brought mainstream media attention and generated some interest from spectators outside the wrestling industry, but to give him a main event spot against Bigelow, when there was a much hotter match between former friends in Diesel and Shawn Michaels over the WWE Championship beneath it, was poor decision-making on the part of management.

Yes, Taylor is an all-time-great linebacker in the NFL, and football players are always recognizable to audiences, but the company needed to focus on its own talent. Add to that the fact that Michaels-Diesel also featured Pamela Anderson, one of the biggest stars on the planet at the time, and Jenny McCarthy at ringside and you have an even stronger argument for that title bout to main event WrestleMania than the spectacle we got instead.
