There are instances over the course of Triple H's Hall of Fame-worthy career in which The Game has been hampered by questionable booking surrounding some of his most anticipated WrestleMania bouts. For whatever reason, the match itself rarely reflects the intensity of the rivalry, ultimately hurting the reaction fans give it.

Never was that more evident than in 2009 at WrestleMania 25, when he defended the WWE Championship against Randy Orton to close the show.

Leading into the match, Orton was at his most devious, assaulting McMahon family members before delivering a DDT to Stephanie and planting a kiss on her as The Game was handcuffed and forced to watch from a distance. Triple H would invade Orton's home and brawl with The Viper, setting up what should have been one of the most heated grudge matches in WrestleMania history.

Instead, WWE Creative inexplicably saddled the match with a stipulation that stated Triple H would lose his title if he was disqualified. Essentially, the writing team neutered the match, taking away all brawling and weaponry before the opening bell.

The result was a lethargic match that did not at all reflect the tone of the rivalry. Given the fact that it followed Shawn Michaels and Undertaker, one of the greatest matches in WWE history, it should be no surprise whatsoever that the match was dead on arrival.
