Heading into WrestleMania XXVIII, Cody Rhodes repeatedly got under The Big Show's skin by reminding the world's largest athlete that in his long WWE career, he had never had a WrestleMania moment. To hammer the point home, Rhodes showed footage of Show being eliminated first in the main event of WrestleMania 2000, losing a sumo challenge to Akebono at WrestleMania 21, and hosting WrestleMania X-8 at WWE New York.

Naturally, that meant that Show beat Cody at WrestleMania, pinning him to win the Intercontinental Title. Of course, Cody was owed a rematch, and the two clashed once more at Extreme Rules in a tables match.

In a reversal of how things are usually done, the rematch got even less time than the WrestleMania match. After four-and-a-half minutes passed without note, Cody dropkicked Show off the apron, forcing the champion to take a step back, right through a table. Though only his foot broke the wood, the match was over and Cody had regained the title.

Just to prove that nothing that had happened mattered, an angry Big Show tossed Cody through a ringside table following the bout.
