10 Worst PPVs Of WWE PG Era
1. Battleground 2017
Sometimes a PPV can peak during its first match on the card. There isn't a better example of this than Battleground 2017. It opened up with The New Day beating The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Titles in an absolute classic. Sadly, every match that followed on the card seemed to get worse and worse.
Shinsuke Nakamura and Baron Corbin had a match that never got into second gear, which resulted in Nakamura winning via DQ. Natalya won a messy Fatal-5-Way elimination match to become #1 contender for the SmackDown Women's' Title. Kevin Owens and AJ Styles had one of the worst matches of both of their careers for the United States Title, with a botched finish meaning the crowd didn't react to the title change.
The semi-main event featured John Cena defeating Rusev in a Flag Match. WWE rekindling the Rusev and Cena feud was extremely lazy and the storyline of Russia vs. USA going into the match was completely outdated and did little to generate fan interest.
The main event featured one of the worst PPV main events of all time. Jinder Mahal retained the WWE Title against Randy Orton in an infamous Punjabi Prison match after The Great Khali made a one night only return to the WWE to help Mahal win. The match was messy and confusing as fans could barely see anything thanks to the structure of the Punjabi Prison itself.
