In a rare moment of a real life romance affecting its in-ring parallel, this entire feud went from bad to worse after Ru-Ru and the Ravishing Russian announced their non-kayfabe nuptials.

Back in 2015, following several losses he attributed to Lana, Rusev banished his manager from accompanying him to ringside. He then began a baffling alliance with Summer Rae, while Lana started inexplicably dressing in patched denim jackets and shadowing Dolph Ziggler. This led to a four-way feud which gave us highlights like Summer Rae stealing Ziggler’s clothes while he was in the shower, Lana rubbing Summer’s face into a fish, and Summer proposing to Rusev, shortly after which Lana and Rusev announced their real life engagement.

This completely derailed what was already a disaster of a story, since WWE had no choice but to acknowledge that the two were an item, despite kayfabe suggesting otherwise. The whole thing fizzled out after five excruciating months, with Rusev emerging symbolically castrated with his monster heel gimmick in tatters. The feud also seems to have single-handedly killed Summer Rae’s career, managed to make Lana look fickle, and lost Dolph Ziggler pretty much all of his babyface sympathy as a result of the implication that he’d been sleeping with both women the entire time.
