10 Worst Romance Angles In WWE History
2. Lita And Kane
Whether or not this angle should be included in the same sentence as the word ‘romance’ is up for debate. The angle’s inherent awfulness, however, is not. This entire story was set up to put Matt Hardy over as a romantic and just hero, but it wound up descending into darker and weirder territory the more things progressed.
Despite being one of the most memorable and physically gifted female performers in WWE history, Lita often found herself saddled with tacky romance storylines. Years before Miss Team Xtreme simulated the bumping of uglies with Edge, she was essentially stalked and raped by Kane, everyone’s favourite loveable demon. When Kane began seducing Lita, Matt Hardy interjected on behalf of the then-WWE Diva, prompting Kane to perform a series of beatdowns on Hardy. This eventually led to the revelation that Lita was pregnant with Kane’s baby, and Hardy was subsequently challenged to a Til Death Do Us Part match, in which the winner got to (or had to) marry Lita. Both Matt and Lita agreed to this stipulation.
Kane wound up winning, and eventually married Lita during a ceremony complete with bright white tuxedos and little people as ring bearers, because that’s always funny. From there, Lita accompanied Kane to the ring as his wife, until a chair shot to the back of Kane from jobber Gene Snitsky saw the Big Red Machine fall on top of his wife/victim. This resulted in Lita suffering a miscarriage, which then led to a bizarre segment in which Snitsky punted a fake baby into the crowd as a way of tormenting Lita.
