10 Worst Times Celebrities Got Physical In Wrestling
5. I Pity The Fool Who Paid For This Match
The Inoki/Ali match might have been terrible, but there was at least some semblance of logic in having a proto-MMA bout between a boxer and a wrestler. What doesn't make any sense is the rationale WWE followed for the WrestleMania 2 bout between "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and Mr. T. To wit:
Wrestler + Actor = Boxing Match.
Unsurprisingly, the match turned out to be a dud. As anyone outside WWE Creative could have figured out, putting two non-boxers in a boxing match led to an excruciatingly dull contest, livened up only by the genius of Roddy Piper.
Piper's dickish antics (throwing a footstool at Mr. T) and cartoonish selling (tumbling out of the ring for a clearly worked punch) are the only positives the match has going for it. The rest is more than 10 minutes of stalling and badly thrown punches. When Piper bodyslammed Mr. T for the DQ it felt like a mercy killing for a match that had seriously overstayed its welcome.
To paraphrase Kent Brockman's views on democracy, making wrestlers act like boxers "simply doesn't work".
Speaking of malfunctioning political systems...
