10 Worst Title Reigns In AEW So Far
9. Jon Moxley (AEW Championship, 59 Days)
Jon Moxley as the caretaker champion in AEW shouldn't be a bad thing, but having him do it twice in a matter of months sums up the year the promotion had at the top of the card. It was kind of an unwinnable situation for AEW, which had to deal with the impact of 'Brawl Out,' but there could have been an opportunity for someone else to have a short reign.
His record-setting third title win was an unnecessary one for the brawler who defeated his Blackpool Combat Club stablemate Bryan Danielson in the final of a tournament to win the belt. This in itself was a questionable decision, as Moxley could have lost and gone on holiday as he had planned, allowing the 'American Dragon' a chance to hold the World title at least once.
Moxley would only defend the title twice, against Penta El Zero Miedo and 'Hangman' Adam Page, with the match against the latter having a harrowing ending that thankfully led to a terrific storyline.
The title program with MJF helped the championship reign seem more worthwhile in hindsight, with Moxley losing after his mentor William Regal interfered on Maxwell's behalf.
