10 Worst Un-Extreme Matches That Took Place At WWE Extreme Rules
1. The Shield Vs. Evolution - 2014
Before we get into this, let's make one thing very clear: this match is excellent.
WWE pitted its past against its future when it booked a six-man tag team match between Evolution, represented by Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista, against The Shield, comprised of then-rising stars, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and Dean Ambrose.
The match did an excellent job in putting over The Shield as big players, especially when Reigns pinned Batista to get the win for his team. The execution of the match cannot be questioned. It's just the placement of it that's baffling.
Although it featured Seth Rollins' iconic balcony dive, this match was presented as a straightforward six-man tag, despite taking place at Extreme Rules.
If this wasn't confusing enough, at the following month's Payback pay-per-view, The Shield took on Evolution in a rematch with a No Holds Barred stipulation.
This is a perfect example of why WWE's old schedule - which traditionally put Extreme Rules directly after WrestleMania - made no sense.
It meant that WWE were trying to start new feuds, but were hampered by the theme of the pay-per-view, which often resulted in them ignoring that theme entirely.
Once again, we're not knocking this match, but we are knocking pretty much everything else surrounding it.
