10 Worst Ways The WWE Women’s Championship Has Been Defended

7. Fulfill Your Fantasy Battle Royal (Taboo Tuesday 2004)

The unique selling point of WWE’s Taboo Tuesday was that fans finally assumed control and had the opportunity to dictate the booking of important matches. While a hand full of those choices on the card led to some memorable bouts, the rest were played more for comedic purposes or throwaway squashes.

The stipulation choices for the Women’s Championship Fulfil-Your-Fantasy-Battle-Royal included school girl, French maid and cheerleader attire. School girl was favoured. What makes this match frustrating is that it was doomed to fail from the start. It acted as nothing more than a soft-core segue into the main attractions.

When you consider that this match comprised the talents of Trish Stratus, Molly Holly, Victoria, Jazz and Gail Kim, you can’t help but wonder what could have been. Instead of a five minute match full of posturing, schoolgirl outfits and hugging the bottom rope, fans could have seen a one-on-one encounter with an interesting stipulation between two talented workers.

WWE were making strides in the division at the time - but matches like these held back any progress and cemented the competitors as eye candy, negating the considerable talent some of them possessed.

There is no denying that a superstar could be incredibly successful and sexy at the same time, but WWE had a hard time (sorry) balancing those scales.
