9. Halloween Havoc 92 - Coal Miner’s Glove Match

Spin the wheel and make the deal. But for the love of God, don’t land on the Coal Miner’s Glove Match!

Unfortunately, that’s exactly the stipulation that Sting and Jake Roberts landed on for their 1992 Halloween Havoc match. The wheel was not rigged, so whatever it landed on was going to happen, because Bill Watts was crazy. There is no other explanation needed.

We could have had Roberts and Sting in a cage match, a Russian Chain Match, an I Quit match or the delightfully sounding Prince of Darkness match. What we got was a glove on a pole. I think it's obvious what happened here; Vince Russo traveled back in time that night! There is just no other explanation possible!

Since the wrestlers didn’t know where the wheel was going to land, they couldn’t really plan anything out that well in advance. So while seeing them wrestling was a dream come true, they delivered something horrifyingly awful. Sting won, and in a comically sad moment, when Roberts tried to attack his opponent with his snake, he had to hold the thing up to his own face to make it appear that it had attacked him. It didn’t look good.

Roberts then walked away, never to wrestle on another televised WCW show again.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
