You do not ever. EVER. End a pay-per-view with Diamond Dallas Page pinning Stevie Ray.

There were so many problems with Fall Brawl’s 1998 War Games match that it’s hard to know where to begin. For starters, team WCW was composed of DDP (cool, makes sense), Roddy Piper (a man who only wrestled seven matches for the company in all of 1998) and Warrior, a man who had never wrestled for WCW.

The nWo Black and White had Stevie Ray on their side instead of Scott Hall or Scott Steiner, and the match had an every man for themselves twist where the winner got a title shot, which...actually defeats the entire purpose of War Games. So yeah, as soon as Piper came in he went after DDP. THEN WHY BOTHER HAVING TEAMS? Why wouldn’t everyone just be out at once?

Oh yeah, Hogan turned on Bret in the match as well, just to make things even more needlessly complicated. And oh yeah, Warrior had a fake Warrior, and also basically knocked out everyone in the the ring with some sort of gas.

It was an embarrassing match all around, and it seems so hard to screw up War Games, but the company did so in impressive fashion.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
