10 Worst WCW Tag Team Champions Ever

8. Shane Douglas & Buff Bagwell

Is it possible for two men to have negative chemistry? Any doubters need to go back and watch this short-lived duo. Shane Douglas and Buff Bagwell were charismatic wrestlers in their own rights (wildly so, in the case of the latter), yet as a duo, they had all the magnetism of a used teabag. If you're looking for a terrible example of 'two singles dudes randomly tagging together', this is right up there with Renee Dupree and Kenzo Suzuki. If you'd totally forgotten that duo, sorry.

Douglas and Buff won the titles at Spring Stampede 2000, as WCW entered arguably the worst creative year any promotion has had in the history of professional wrestling. They were the first champions after Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff vacated all the titles in the company, which was as dumb then as it sounds now. This dynamic duo won a four-team one-night tournament, overcoming Harlem Heat 2000 (Stevie Ray and Big T) before besting Ric Flair and Lex Luger in the finals.

Of course, the finish was dung. Buff accidentally hit Douglas with the Blockbuster, leading to Vince Russo getting involved and the returning KroniK attacking Luger. Elsewhere on the show, Mancow defeated Jimmy Hart, Ladies and gentlemen, WCW 2000.

One small aside; if all you know about Buff Bagwell is a wretched WCW Championship match against Booker T, you are doing yourself a disservice. Before breaking his neck, Buff was one of the most entertaining wrestlers in WCW, a fantastic babyface and an even better heel. It is a shame that such bad luck came his way.

No, the 'bad luck' referenced there is not a pointless team with Shane Douglas, but it might as well be.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
