2011 - Raw to SmackDown

John Cena was one of the most exciting draft picks ever when he was chosen in 2005. Walking out on the Highlight Reel, even Chris Jericho had the biggest smile on his face to see the reigning WWE Champion be swapped to Monday nights.

The same can't be said for when he moved brands in 2011...

Right until the end of the show, the 2011 WWE draft was a very strong night. With ECW gone, it was back to just Raw and SmackDown poaching superstars from each other. Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, and Alberto Del Rio all jumped ship; WWE wasn't afraid to moves its biggest stars.

The first draft pick of the night was John Cena. Going from Raw to SmackDown, this was the first time the Chain Gang Soldier had represented the blue brand since his big move in 2005... or was it? This is where things get silly.

With Team Raw's The Miz, CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio defeating Team SmackDown's John Cena, Christian and Mark Henry in the final match of the night, there was one more draft pick to come...

...AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA!

Yes, Cena was shipped back to Raw on the same episode where he was drafted to SmackDown. What a waste of everybody's time. It's telling that the pop from the Raw crowd for the Doctor of Thuganomics leaving was bigger than the one for him coming back, but this attempt at building anything can happen drama really didn't work.

When I'm not trying my hardest to visit all 50 U.S. states, I'm listening to music from the 80s, watching TV from the 90s, and reminiscing about growing up in the 00s. I'm currently living in Melbourne, Australia so WWE premium live events are on Sunday afternoons for me; the absolute dream.
