10 Worst WWE Draft Selections Ever
5. Pick 5, 2002 (SmackDown): Chris Benoit
In the inaugural WWE Draft, you could have pretty much expected that all of the top 10 selections would be major players for their respective brands. That idea rang true for the most part, but certainly not in the case of Chris Benoit.
As the third Superstar to be drafted by Vince McMahon to SmackDown, Benoit wasn't even on the active roster at the time following a neck injury that required surgery roughly one year prior.
In what appears to be either a terrible miscommunication or a misjudgment of Benoit's estimated return, Benoit was not immediately available, nor would he be for some time. However, the true blunder came when Benoit finally made his return - on Raw.
Inexplicably, Benoit completely bypassed the show he was assigned to and began exclusively performing on Raw, tagging with Eddie Guerrero and winning the Intercontinental Championship. Benoit would eventually be exclusive to SmackDown months later during an "open season" on wrestlers' contracts, but not before fans were left scratching their heads.
