Roll back the clock to the 1980s for great Intercontinental Champions like 'Macho Man' Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior. Hell, even The Honky Tonk Man qualifies as one of the secondary strap's best ever holders.

Into the 90s, and the trend of strong Intercontinental goodness continued with the likes of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon and Steve Austin. At least, that's the narrative WWE wish to spin, but the once-proud Intercontinental Title became a prop passed around without much rhyme or reason long before the end of that decade.

There have been some truly awful Intercontinental Champions since the belt was first introduced back in 1979 - and most of them have come in the modern era.

Despite the title's legacy and status as one of WWE's most prized, the Intercontinental Title has sure been passed around with an alarming level of randomness over the years.

That has resulted in some meaningless reigns...
