10 Worst WWE Moments Of 2000
8. Hardcore Division Botches WrestleMania
Check this out for a lineup: Hardcore Holly, Crash Holly, Bradshaw, Faarooq, Joey Abs, Pete Gas, Rodney, Taka Michinoku, Funaki, Tazz, Mosh, Thrasher and Viscera. All of those dudes worked a 15-minute Hardcore Title melee at WrestleMania 2000. It was chaotic as you'd expect going in, but you'd be forgiven for thinking they'd have the finish ironed out ahead of time.
Nope, and that had to be a source of embarrassment for some once they stormed through the curtain post-match. Management cannot have been chuffed that Hardcore Holly left with the belt, because well...he was never supposed to win. The match had a string of title changes throughout, but it was meant to close with Crash retaining as the time limit lapsed.
He'd be saved by the clock.
Sadly, everybody got the timing badly wrong. Hardcore blasted Crash then pinned him far too early, and the referee stopped his count upon realising that lil' Crasher was never going to kick out. The problem? The clock was still running, so there was no need for the official to stop. It was messy, and both Crash and Hardcore looked puzzled as the ref thrashed things out.
It was nightmare stuff to botch the finish to any match, let alone one at WrestleMania. Bruce Prichard later stated via his podcast that McMahon was glad it happened in the Hardcore Title mix. Had this occurred elsewhere on the card in a more important title bout, then there could've been real trouble for poor Tim White.
Screwing up a 'Mania finish? Yeah, that makes the list.
