Hornswoggle and Chavo Guerrero had an interminable feud in 2009. Together, they worked a ‘Blindfold Match’ that made everyone long to have something shielding their eyes instead, Chavo dressed up as a cow for a ‘Texas Bullrope Match’, and Mark Henry even became “Markswoggle” for the night. Not many were amused by any of this; at least not anyone over the age of 12.

The 24 August 2009 Raw stands out though. Chavo and Swoggle worked a comedy boxing match compete with oversized gloves for Guerrero. These skits got less and less funny by the week. Look, there's nothing wrong with booking things that'll make children laugh or entertain them, but this was the same gag over and over again.

Chavo would make grand promises about catching Hornswoggle to give him a thrashing, then the lil' devil would find a way to escape like he was some Looney Tunes cartoon character come to life. It was way more endearing when Bugs Bunny did it, guys. Wee Swoggle just lacked the likeability of that rabbit.

Guerrero clearly didn't mind clowning himself, and this was a million miles better than the racist Kerwin White gimmick he'd played in 2005, but still...it sucked. Diminishing returns are rubbish for everybody when something's hot but people lose interest. They're way worse when something is crap from the get go but everyone's forced to sit through effectively the same flimsy booking on repeat.

WWE should've told the announcers to bow out so they could play some Benny Hill music with an added laughter track instead. The whole thing was way too try hard.
