3. Shawn Michaels “Needs” JBL’s Money

Here's one storyline that made no sense whatsoever.

Shawn Michaels claimed that the global recession had forced him to spend the last of his family savings, so he needed to seek employment from JBL and do the heel’s bidding to make money. Wait, what? So WWE weren’t paying one of their top stars to wrestle? How on earth did they think anybody was going to believe a word of it?!

Technically, this all started in December 2008, but the story continued into ’09 and peaked with HBK beating Layfield at No Way Out in February. He immediately went from that to a feud with The Undertaker heading into ‘Mania XXV, which was a vast improvement. Honestly, what was this all about? It simply wasn’t believable that a multi-millionaire like Shawn Michaels was struggling to pay the bills.

Everyone reading will understand that WWE were trying to exploit a relatable real-life situation, but it was daft. There was no feasible way that Shawn, who was still under company contract and had been competing for World Titles in pay-per-view main events mere months ago, was strapped for cash. Even so, he turned into Layfield's lackey before breaking free just in time for another money spinner against an old foe come 'Mania.

The idea that Michaels "needed" JBL's money was laughable. Financial uncertainty was a real concern for many tuning in, so it was a tad insulting to see multi-millionaires pretending they couldn't put food on the table. Hell, Shawn's pyro budget alone would've kept a family of 4 fed and watered all year.

At least make it plausible, please.
