Royal Rumble 2006 was one of the worst booked Rumble PPVs of all time. To this very day, what WWE was thinking with the booking decisions on this show is still a big question.

The Rumble itself took place in the middle of the show. This meant the match and the eventual winner Rey Mysterio looked like a complete afterthought. This would be the first time that the Rumble match hadn't the main evented the PPV since 1998.

The WWE Title would be decided between Edge and John Cena on the show. Edge would then proceed to lose the WWE Title to Cena after only holding it for two weeks. The main event of the show was a terrible World Title match between Kurt Angle and Mark Henry. It was arguably one of the worst matches of Angle's career and only served to set up Angle vs. The Undertaker at the following PPV.

Other matches on the show included JBL vs. The Boogeyman and Mickie James vs. Ashley. Neither of which were PPV quality and neither of which added anything of substance to the uninspired and flat show.
