10 Worst WWE Royal Rumble Final Twos EVER
9. Randy Orton & Roman Reigns - 2017
The most star-studded Rumble in a long time, there was a feeling that anyone could have walked away with the win: the Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, Chris Jericho, Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman. Anyone would have been happy with the choice on offer apart from who we ended up with.
Roman Reigns was still in his post-Shield limbo in which he was relentlessly pushed as "the guy" but was firmly rejected by the fans, and earlier in the night, Reigns had lost a Universal Championship match to Kevin Owens. So when an unannounced superstar was going to enter the Royal Rumble at number 30, fans expecting someone like Finn Balor were very disappointed when the Big Dog emerged and threw out fan favourites like Undertaker, Jericho and Wyatt before coming face to face with Randy Orton.
The final two didn't last all that long, spear countered into RKO and Reigns lobbed out in short order. With the last two years of Roman coming scarily close to winning the Royal Rumble for a second time, fans cheered loudly when he was thrown out. However, the cheers quickly died down when they realised who had won. From the sea of big and more deserving names, WWE choosing Randy to win the match was thoroughly uninspired. But at the time, the choice between this final two was the lesser of two evils.
