10 Worst WWF 'New Generation' Gimmicks

10. Leif Cassidy

It's stunning to think that Al Snow was considered an ideal replacement for Shawn Michaels in The Rockers. After Michaels went on to become a true standalone star, Marty Jannetty's career never fully recovered. Putting 'Leif Cassidy' with him and branding the team, 'The New Rockers' did nothing to aid that sad fact. Cassidy was dorky, and the team lacked the same teenage heartthrob appeal of before. There's long been a story that The New Rockers were supposed to be cringeworthy, almost a send-up of the original unit. If true, then it still didn't really work. Instead of being outraged or excited, fans were apathetic to what was put before them. Originally, Snow had played 'Avatar' in the company, a ninja-like wrestler. There was nothing especially noteworthy about the gimmick, at least compared to Cassidy. Leif Cassidy stands out as the worst period of the man's career. Sure, he was in the WWF, the biggest company around, but the role was awful. Eventually, The New Rockers split up, and Cassidy went on to become a mid card heel. Despite an excellent match against Flash Funk at In Your House 12, he did nothing else of note. It was never really determined why fans should care about the character.
