10 WrestleMania 32 Mistakes WWE Must Avoid This Year
4. Don't Neglect Pre-established Stories
Leading into Brock Lesnar and Dean Ambrose’s No Holds Barred Street Fight at WrestleMania 32, no one was really giving Ambrose a chance. But the story being told was one of brave sacrifice and gracious defeat; Ambrose had been collecting weapons and blessings from various hardcore wrestling icons, in the hope that it would imbue him with some sort of diplomatic immunity in Suplex City. Ambrose was going to lose, but he was going to go out with a bang, giving Lesnar everything he had before looking heroic in defeat.
That’s not really what happened though. There were a couple of weapon spots, then it seemed like Lesnar got bored and started suplexing. Weeks of build-up were essentially wasted on the very night they were supposed to pay off, and all of Ambrose’s week-to-week storytelling dissipated once it came time to conclude that story in the ring.
WWE can’t afford to make the same mistake again this year, especially with narrative-heavy matches like Wyatt vs Orton or even Reigns vs Taker. Remember why the match is taking place to begin with (outside of monetary reasons), and don’t completely toss aside well-built stories when it comes time to bring them home.
