10 WrestleMania Main Events That Nobody Wanted To See

3. Hulk Hogan vs. Yokozuna - WrestleMania IX

By the time Wrestlemania IX had rolled around, Hulkamania was most certainly dead. The most popular superstar of the 1980s had not changed with the times and, by 1993, wrestling fans were getting sick of seeing Hogan and his stale act. That, of course, did not stop Vince McMahon from putting the WWF world title on Hogan in a match he wasn't even scheduled to be in. You see, the advertised main event of Wrestlemania IX was champion Bret Hart facing Yokozuna, who had won the 1993 Royal Rumble and was the first man to earn a title shot based on winning that match. Yokozuna was being pushed as the next big monster heel but Bret Hart was clearly the promotion's most popular wrestler and seemed poised to carry the WWF title for most of the 1990s due to his popularity and technical prowess. However, Vince McMahon had a different idea. Instead, he booked Yokozuna to defeat Hart for the title after heel manager Mr. Fuji blinded Bret with ceremonial salt while Hart had Yoko in the Sharpshooter. While the Vegas crowd was shocked at the outcome, things were about to get even weirder. Hulk Hogan, who had wrestled in a midcard tag match earlier in the night against Money Inc. (which should have been a massive red flag to any longtime wrestling fan), stormed the ringside area and protested the decision. While Hogan tended to Hart, Mr. Fuji started to insult Hogan and challenge him to a title match immediately. Of course, this makes Mr. Fuji one of the dumbest human beings on Earth because Hogan of course accepted and quickly pinned Yoko, capturing the WWF title for the 5th time. Backstage, the real reason for Hogan's title win was that Vince McMahon expected Hogan to then put over Bret Hart at the King of the Ring pay-per-view and anoint Bret as the next big superstar of wrestling. Instead, Hogan announced that he would be taking a few months off, would not be appearing on weekly television shows, and was definitely not jobbing to Bret Hart. Instead, Hogan was basically squashed by Yokozuna at the 1993 King of the Ring and beaten with his own legdrop finisher, thus rendering the entire Wrestlemania finish pointless. Hogan would not return to the WWF or Wrestlemania until 2002.
