10 WrestleMania Main Events That Nobody Wanted To See

2. The Miz vs. John Cena - WrestleMania XXVII

It's hard to believe that only a few years ago, the freaking Miz was headlining Wrestlemania. In an experiment that went about as well as everyone outside of Vince McMahon predicted, the Miz as WWE champion drew exactly zero new fans to the product and did nothing except alienate the hardcore audience who never bought the former MTV star as a legitimate world champion wrestler. Of course, that didn't stop McMahon and WWE from pushing Miz to the moon and trying every trick possible to get him over as a heel. WWE truly pulled out all the stops to get crowd heat for this main event. The Rock was the "special guest host" of Wrestlemania (whatever that means) and it was no secret that Rock vs. Cena was planned for the next year. So really, the main event of Wrestlemania XXVII was used to set up the main event of Wrestlemania XXVIII. In a desperate attempt to get the crowd to care about the Miz, a very cool career retrospective video was presented right before the match but even the power of Nas's "Hate Me Now" could not get the crowd to believe the Miz actually had a chance against John Cena. To make matters worse, McMahon and WWE actually thought that having the match end in a double count out was a way to build crowd heat. That's right, in the main event of the biggest show of the year, WWE thought that teasing a double count out finish would have the crowd demanding that the match be restarted. Instead, the live crowd booed the crap out of the potential finish until the Rock attacked both guys and put himself over. The whole thing was a colossal disaster and lives in infamy as one of the worst main events in Wrestlemania history.
