10 WrestleMania Matches That Surpassed All Expectations

1. AJ Styles Vs. Shane McMahon (WrestleMania 33)

The second WrestleMania 33 match to silence the critics was AJ Styles' clash with Shane McMahon, a bout that - in the build-up to the event - had been dismissed by many as a complete waste of the Phenomenal One's talents.

This assessment may well have been true. After all, if AJ was able to put on a match this good with a middle-aged part-timer, imagine what he could have produced in the ring with someone like Seth Rollins, or (since he wasn't injured after all) Daniel Bryan.

Overlooking the performance of the SmackDown Live commissioner seems kind of harsh, though. If you had never seen a WWE show before, you could have easily mistaken him for a full-time member of the roster. The guy did a freaking shooting star splash, for God's sake.

For many, this was the night's show-stealing encounter: one that helped get the Camping World Stadium on its feet ahead of the many disappointments to come later on in the show. Nobody really saw that coming, and huge credit must go to both men (along with whomever decided to throw them together).
