10 WrestleMania Matches That Surpassed All Expectations
3. Edge Vs. Mick Foley (WrestleMania 22)
In the run-up to WrestleMania 22, two of the event's mooted encounters stood out as potential match of the night candidates: Triple H versus John Cena for the WWE Championship, and the triple threat World Heavyweight Title clash involving Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle and Randy Orton.
And yet neither of those came away with the mantle. Instead, of was Edge versus Mick Foley - a bout that went on fourth - that ended up stealing the occasion, despite its featuring a part-timer who had barely competed in the previous five years.
This wasn't a complete surprise, to be fair: Foley, under the guise of Cactus Jack, had managed something similar alongside Randy Orton a couple of years earlier at Backlash - but that was then, and this was now.
You couldn't guarantee a repeat.
Besides which, the extremities they went to in this one were something nobody could really have anticipated. At one point, Edge speared his opponent through a flaming table (it's almost as though they were trying to whet our appetite for an ECW revival later on in the year).
