10 WrestleMania Matches That Surpassed All Expectations
4. Vince McMahon Vs. Shane McMahon (WrestleMania X-Seven)
What a huge feather in the cap of Vince McMahon it must be to have shared not just one, but three, reasonably good matches on the Grandest Stage of Them All (you imagine he brings that up over Thanksgiving dinner at least once a year).
The first of them, two years before he tussled with Hogan, came against his own flesh and blood at WrestleMania X-Seven, at which he fought son Shane McMahon - the heir apparent to his WWE kingdom - in a pulsating Street Fight.
What made this one great was how much of an exercise in catharsis it appeared to be. Not only did Shane, the same week he acquired WCW, manage to get another one over on his dad, even a previously catatonic Linda got in on the act by nailing him with a timely low blow.
Everything you could ask of a for-the-ages WrestleMania spectacle was there: melodrama, crazy spots, buckets of blood. It even ended with the youngster going over the veteran, even if it was the chairman who ended up getting the last laugh with victory in the subsequent Invasion angle.
