10 Wrestler Debuts That Blew Us Away

6. The Shield - Survivor Series (18 November 2012)

Believe it or not, there was a time when the vast majority of the WWE Universe didn’t hate Roman Reigns with the burning heat of 1,000 suns. Look back to The Shield’s debut for proof.

Ryback was on a bit of a roll at that point (another hard thing to believe these days) and was facing off against CM Punk and John Cena in the main event of the show. After hitting his Shell Shock finisher, Ryback was moments away from becoming WWE Champion until three men dressed all in black slid into the ring and quickly and effectively beat the ever loving hell out of him. He was tossed to ringside and the pack of wolves laid him out with their triple powerbomb, leaving him destroyed beyond repair. Punk was unscathed in their assault

The crowd was excited by the trio but also confused. To that point, none of them had been on WWE TV. This was before there was a WWE Network, so the NXT wrestlers weren't well known to the masses. But what made The Shield's arrival so exciting is that it was one of the rare times WWE let three young, unknown wrestlers enter the main event scene upon arrival. That night was an electric start and set up the trio to eventually become one of the most popular groups the company has ever seen.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
