Chucking Daniel Bryan straight into the title picture may rankle with some of AEW’s fiercest fans, another “WWE guy” making the jump over and getting in the spotlight. But Daniel Bryan doesn’t have to win.
The careful booking of Page has been a masterpiece, patient and adaptive storytelling that has left the cowboy the top face in AEW. What if a cocky Bryan were to rock up, demand a shot at the belt - and get beaten?
It would be a huge notch for Page, and wouldn’t hurt Bryan’s star power in the least. The former WWE champ is an industry legend, a wrestling fan, and by all accounts a really cool guy. With his career on the wane, he’d be buzzing to put over Page to keep his star on the rise. And what’s more, it would be a great match.
