4. Marty Scurll

Of all the great British wrestlers to emerge in the past few years, Marty Scurll might have the most superstar potential, and not just because he’s a great technical wrestler. Scurll is the total package: a man with endless charisma and a unique gimmick, and he never fails to connect with the audience. He has improved immensely in recent years, and as the current Ring Of Honor TV Champion, he’s all set for a huge 2017.

Scurll’s ROH contract likely prohibits him from a spot in the tournament, but that doesn’t mean fans wouldn’t want to see him. Aside from winning said TV Title, 2016 also brought success in PWG’s Battle Of Los Angeles tournament, and a big title win in PROGRESS. Scurll is on top of the world at the moment, and if things continue along the current trajectory, the indie circuit will be his oyster next year.

Already an 11-year veteran at the age of 28, big things lie in wait for The Villain. His character work goes above and beyond anyone else on the independent scene, and he’s got the pure wrestling skills to back it up. Scurll would be an immediate favourite if he entered the tournament, and many opponents would surely fall to his famous Crossface Chickenwing.
