10 Wrestlers That Tragically Turned To Drugs

7. Lance Cade

Despite dying only five months after his 29th birthday Cade, real name Lance McNaught, enjoyed an 11 year career. Trained by Shawn Michaels, McNaught made his debut in 1999 and worked in Japan before being signed to a developmental contract by WWE in 2001. He was assigned to Memphis Championship Wrestling, before joining the Heartland Wrestling Association. Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) came calling in 2003 where he formed a tag team with Mark Jindrak and both were promoted to the Raw June 2003. In 2004 the team split up, and Cade took time off after a knee injury. Returning to Raw with a new tag partner in Trevor Murdoch, the pair teamed together for almost three years before they broke up in May 2008. Cade then entered a storyline with Chris Jericho and Michaels before he was released in 2008. Cade was a three-time World Tag Team Champion with Murdoch in WWE, and also held the HWA Heavyweight Championship and HWA Tag Team Championship. He was a former one-time TWA Television Champion in the Texas Wrestling Alliance. Spells on the independent scene and in Japan followed before Cade died on August 13, 2010 of apparent heart failure in San Antonio, Texas. McNaught's wife Tanya took him to hospital after he had difficulty breathing on August 10, but Lance discharged himself the next day. Two months later on October 13, the medical examiner in San Antonio ruled his death as 'accidental,' stating that intoxication from mixed drugs complicated a cardiomyopathy and caused his death.
